Qiio
Deutsche Bank teamed up with Blogfabrik to develop a new kind of online magazine called Qiio, which aims to explore topics at the intersection of society, economics and aesthetics, covering their development from the distant past to the present day and looking ahead to future visions.
The result of a long design and development phase is a magazine that not only pursues an unusual strategy for arranging content and making it accessible, but also offers a number of complex and effective special features: In addition to the panorama, which offers a comprehensive overview and introduction to the temporal dimensions of each topic area, these features include the ability to respond to individual text passages and automated colour assignment based on a k-means++ clustering algorithm.
Qiio was developed by myself and Ludwig Schmidt, with particular emphasis on implementing these functions, which go far beyond the norm for online magazines and blogs, using our own code rather than third-party solutions. In this respect, this project was a good opportunity to design more complex algorithms and make them usable for front-end development.
